Offshore Forex Broker: What Are the Risks and How to Verify the License

Offshore Forex Broker: What is the Risk

5-Minute Checklist

In Tajikistan and Central Asia, agents of offshore forex brokers are actively working. They hold seminars in cafes and hotels, promise "30% per month," and offer to open an account "right now." Let's discuss how to recognize them.

Signs of an Offshore Forex Broker

1. Jurisdiction of registration. Open the broker's website and find the "Regulation" section. Common offshore jurisdictions include:

  • Seychelles (FSA SVG)
  • Vanuatu (VFSC)
  • Belize (IFSC)
  • Cyprus (CySEC)
  • Marshall Islands

This doesn't necessarily mean the company is fraudulent. However, in case of an issue, you won't be able to approach a local court or regulator.

2. Lack of a Ministry of Finance of RT license. If a broker operates in Tajikistan, it must have a Ministry of Finance RT license. Without it, the activity is illegal.

3. Promises of fixed returns. "Guaranteed 20% per month," "Signals with 95% accuracy," "Risk-free trading" are red flags. No legitimate broker promises fixed returns.

4. Pressure for quick decisions. "Open an account today, tomorrow will be too late," "100% bonus, but only now" are pressure techniques.

5. Issues with fund withdrawals. Read reviews on independent platforms. If people complain about delays, "verification" taking 3 weeks, "withdrawal tax" — this is a serious signal.

Why Offshore Brokers are Dangerous

  • No regulator protection.
  • Possible manipulation of quotes.
  • Your money is held with the broker, not in a depository.
  • Tax risks.

5-Minute Check-List

  1. Find the "Licenses" section on the website.
  2. Check the jurisdiction.
  3. Check the register on the regulator's website.
  4. Read reviews on independent platforms.
  5. Try withdrawing a small amount before making a large deposit.
