The company is studying the prospects for using G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). They are a common target for many drugs, as disorders in the functioning of GPCRs lead to various diseases, from obesity to nervous system problems.
Structure Therapeutics' developments are at an early stage. Initial (single-dose) phase I clinical trials of the GSBR-1290 candidate drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and excess weight have been completed. In the second half of 2023, the company plans to publish information on the results of phase Ib and phase IIa trials of GSBR-1290.
The diabetes drug market is the most promising for Structure Therapeutics. Currently, almost 420 million people worldwide have type 2 diabetes, and this number could increase by 46% by 2025. Approximately 90% of patients have a problem with excess weight.
