Users trade contracts on the outcome of real events: elections, sporting events, central bank decisions, economic indicators, technologies, and other events. The price of a contract reflects the market's assessment of the probability of the event: for example, a price of $0.70 roughly corresponds to a probability of 70%. Settlements on the international platform are primarily conducted using the stablecoin USDC and blockchain infrastructure.
Polymarket positions itself as the largest prediction market in the world and primarily competes with Kalshi. In March 2026, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, Intercontinental Exchange - ICE, invested $600 million in the company as part of a plan to invest up to $2 billion.
