Additionally, ALFs often lack staff with formal clinical training and do not have an on-site medical director or full-time nurse. Since residents rely on off-site physicians to monitor their health, there is an increased need for coordination among ALF operators, each resident’s physicians, and pharmacy service providers. Furthermore, residents in these facilities have the right to choose their own pharmacy, often resulting in multiple providers serving a single ALF.
