Where to Begin Investing

You can start investing with a small amount and without special education — more important than the amount of the first contribution is the order of steps.

Step 1. Sort out free money

Invest only the money that will not be needed soon — after a financial cushion for unexpected expenses has been set aside. Investments are not a substitute for savings for urgent needs, but work with the remainder above them.

Step 2. Determine the horizon and risk tolerance

The sooner you need the money, the more cautious you should be in choosing tools — stocks can drop momentarily, and a short term leaves no time to wait for price recovery. On a long horizon (several years or more), fluctuations are smoothed out, and you can allow yourself more risky instruments.

Step 3. Open a brokerage account

Through the "Stockbroker" app, the account is opened online: a passport, a phone number, and a few minutes for the form — no office visit required.

Step 4. Start with understandable instruments

At the start, you don’t have to choose between dozens of individual stocks — you can begin with ETFs, which immediately provide investment in a wide range of companies and reduce the risk of the overall outcome depending on one company. With experience, individual stocks or bonds can be gradually added.

Step 5. Invest regularly, not one-time

Regular small purchases over time smooth out the impact of price entry fluctuations — there’s no need to try to guess the "perfect" moment for the first deal.
